Spellbound Witch Hat

The Spellbound Witch Hat Sewing pattern is a pattern for a quilted, lined, wearable Witch's Hat with an optional sash.

The Spellbound Witch's Hat pattern features three different versions (all included with the pattern):
- Patchwork Quilted Hat
- Quilted Hat
- Non-Quilted, Non Patchwork Hat


Suitable for light and medium-weight cotton and cotton blend fabrics. Not suitable for stretch fabrics. Quilting-weight cotton is recommended.

Size: The finished hat is approximately 16” tall by 20” wide. The interior circle has a 22-23” inch circumference. It fits “most” adults and includes instructions to slightly size the hat for a smaller circumference head. This hat is not intended for children.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate

Basic Supplies

• Pattern: The Spellbound Hat by Melissa Mortenson
• Sewing machine in good working order
• Basic sewing tools:
  • Scissors or rotary cutter
  • Cutting mat and ruler
  • Pins or clips
  • Seam ripper
• Thread (neutral or matching recommended)
• Quilt ruler with 45 degree mark
• Basting spray and/or Quilter’s Safety Pins
• Glue pen
• Tracing or tissue paper to trace pattern pieces

You will need approximately:

• 3/4 - 1 1/4 Yard Fabric for Witch Hat
• 3/4 - 1 1/4 Yard Fabric for Witch Hat Lining
• 1 1/2 Yards Pellon Flex Foam
• 3/4 Yard Heavyweight Fusible Interfacing
• 2 Fat Quarters for Binding
• 1 Fat Quarter for Optional Sash

• Walking foot
• Zipper foot
• Fabric marking tool
• Small iron or pressing tool
