Big Stitch Workshop with Erin Grogan of Love Sew Modern
Elevate your quilting to the next level by adding Big Stitch Hand quilting to your next project. Did you know that you can mix machine quilting and hand quilting? In this 2 hour workshop you will learn how to achieve balanced stitches. You will learn my hoop free method of hand quilting to elevate a quilt with texture and contrast. We will discuss the different ways of marking or even not marking your quilt.
Supply List
- A sandwiched quilt block (quilt block/batting/quilt backing). An orphan block or cheater fabric works great. A 12 1/2” block or larger is
recommended. A basting stitch around the perimeter is recommended. This should be made ahead of class.
- Coordinating and/or contrasting Perle Cotton thread 8 wt or 12 wt.
- Embroidery needle
- Thimble
- Scissors
- Seam Ripper
- Hera Marker OR Marking Pen
- Ruler for marking lines

Instructor Bio: | Erin Grogan, the pattern designer and founder of Love Sew Modern, was introduced to sewing by her grandmother, a professional seamstress. In 2017 Erin took her first trip to a modern quilt shop. Surrounded by all the bright and bold fabrics and modern quilts she knew in that moment she wanted to become a quilter. In January of 2020 Erin left her corporate job to focus on growing her dream, Love Sew Modern. Now four years later Erin has over 14 published patterns, published her first book (Retro Curved Pieced Quilts), and is an international quilting educator who embraces spreading the love of quilting. |
